The Mississippi Burning was an event that happened on the 21st of June, during the year of 1964. The three civil rights workers: Andrew Goodman, James Earl Chaney, and Michael Henry Schwerner were murdered by the Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, or KKK. They were racist haters of black people during the Civil Rights Movement.
This event was called the Mississippi Burning due to the KKK burning the three men's car after their murder.
Though there was much blood shed that day, how did this event affect African Americans?
Thesis:
The trial to convict the murders of the three civil rights workers was the very first time the murder of an African American was taken seriously.
The Mississippi Burning was the murder of an African American that was taken to court - federal agents were involved!
